Summer 2021 Season Checklist

Summer 2021 Season Checklist

Your summer season checklist for 2021 is here!  Get your home summer-ready with this checklist that tackles your home inside and out.

1. Weatherproof home

Keep the cold air inside by sealing up your windows and doors with caulk. Not only will this make your home more energy efficient and help you save on your bill, but it can also improve your home’s air quality and prevent moisture problems.

2. Scrub deck & outdoor furniture

Blast away that dirt and grime buildup from your deck and outdoor furniture with a power-wash. Before you start, prep the surface by removing debris with a broom or leaf blower and rinse down your furniture with some warm, soapy water. If your deck has started to fade in colour, consider sealing it up with a stain to protect it from the elements.

3. Pool clean-up and maintenance

Spending days by the pool is a summer staple. Keep your water crystal clear with some shock. At night, dissolve the shock in a bucket of water before pouring it into your pool so it does not bleach your liner. Try to aim for a pH level of 7.2-7.8.

Safety reminder: To prevent any accidents, make sure your pool is fenced in with a self-latching gate and topped off with a safety cover when not in use.

4. Clean and inspect windows

Brighten up your space by washing your windows both inside and out. For a streak-free finish, spray on a mixture of part vinegar and water or glass cleaner and wipe down with a squeegee. Mend any holes or tears in your window screen using a screen patching kit to keep the bugs out.

5. Swap in white linens

Make your home feel light and airy with some white linens. Give everything a wash to remove dust and opt for lighter curtains and throw blankets.

6. Check air conditioner

Maintaining your air conditioner is crucial to keep it working efficiently and effectively. Regularly vacuuming vents to remove dust buildup, keeping vents furniture-free, cleaning and replacing filters and removing any growth around your condenser unit can improve airflow.

7. Repair chipped paint

If your paint is chipped, cracked or faded, give it a refresh with some new paint. Don't forget to strip all of the old paint before you begin anew.
